Cemetery Formation in Ant Colonies
Bastien Chopard presented a model of cemetery formation in ant colonies.
He showed that cemetery formation is not a collective behaviour, since
one ant can achieve the same result, only slower. Instead, cemetery formation
is the effect of the fluctuation of cluster sizes and the fact that a cluster
of zero size has disappeared and cannot reappear. Here we show a similar
model, in which cluster formation can also be observed, although not usually
to the point of having only one cluster left. The description is fairly
complicated, since the asynchronous behaviour is simulated by using a synchronous
three-step rule. The file is Ants.cdl and the simulation
starts automatically.
